During planned work on a device, its monitoring tools keep sending alerts. A maintenance window prevents these alerts from opening needless incidents.
During the window, the alerts of the CI concerned are received and stay visible in the console, with the In maintenance badge, but open or join no incident and trigger no notification. The alert's timeline says so: “Maintenance window in progress: no incident is opened.” After the window ends, the next alert follows the normal path again (processing rules, incident).
The Maintenance windows screen opens from the Alert console. All console users can view it; only Monitoring administrators, Service Desk administrators and Administrators create, edit and delete manually entered windows.
Windows from changes
When the Changes module is installed, windows are created and kept up to date automatically from scheduled changes: one window per CI affected by the change, over its planned period.
- A postponed change moves its window;
- a CI removed from the change loses its window;
- a canceled or rejected change removes its windows;
- a change completed before the planned end stops the window at the actual end.
These windows can be viewed here but not edited: “This window follows a scheduled change: edit the change's schedule instead.”
If the Changes module is disabled, only manually entered windows apply.
Create a window manually
Click New window and fill in:
- CI: the CMDB item concerned;
- Start and End: 31 days at most. Times are those of your browser; the window is saved at the exact instant, whatever the time zone of those who view it;
- Subject: the reason for the work;
- Extend to directly related CIs (CMDB dependencies): the window also covers the CIs directly related to this one.
View the windows
The List tab shows current and upcoming windows, with their Origin (Change or Manual), the + related CIs mention if they extend to dependencies, and their Status: In progress, Upcoming or Ended. The Show past windows button adds ended windows.
A change's number opens its page. Click a window's CI to see only that CI's windows; the All CIs link removes the filter.
When the Data grids module is installed, the Calendar by CI tab shows the windows on a timeline, CI by CI.
